stitches from the past

I don't usually spend much time at flea markets or craft shows, but we walked through one recently in central Texas. These pillows made from needlework snipped from old pillow cases, table cloths, doilies, etc. really caught my eye.

I recall my mom having much of this needlework that she had made herself. She used it on dressers and small tables. If I remember correctly, young women usually embroidered and crocheted  articles to put in a hope chest, and stored them until marriage.

I think it's great that these colorful stitches from the past are being rescued from dumpsters and being enjoyed all over again.
