Just a few notes --mostly wildlife and nature--maybe a bit of musing about life in general

mountains on the mind
Today it is hot and humid. The ground is soggy, the gardens are overgrown, the grass needs cutting. The remains of Isaac keep dumping more rain.
I am afraid to spend too much time out doors because of the West Nile Virus threat, so I am looking at "old pictures".
When my children were young we would spend time every summer in the Colorado mountains. I loved it! We rented jeeps and drove mining roads that snaked thru mountains--some were quite treacherous. We clutched the seats and threatened to get out and walk. Later we were ready to do it all again.
We would look for big horn sheep, deer and elk, whistle at marmots sunning on rocks, and explore the remains of old mining camps.
In August the columbines and other wildflowers were blooming in the meadows, and the hummingbirds would be zipping across the fields.
We were always excited to reach the far snowy slopes because snow was a rare treat for folks from Louisiana.
