stormy skies

rain pouring off roof

Last evening a "cold" front came thundering through clashing with the hot humid air mass that had been over us for days. A wild electrical storm flashed and boomed around us for hours seeming to strike things very near repeatedly. One bolt rocked the house and later we found the satellite receiver was fried and one of the wired house phone transformers was split. I have walked outdoors looking for any object that may have been struck--no tree, no post, nothing obvious--just the damaged electric devices in the house. I had unplugged various computers and the internet satellite--and so they are ok.

There was a good amount of needed rain and some wind that blew part of one the live oaks down. It was one of the double trunked ones that often split as they get older. We lost power for an hour, but I am grateful that it was possible to have it returned so soon after such a powerful storm.
