a little bit of Christmas in Central Texas

an unusual Christmas decoration

While in Texas last month we drove out to the Johnson City area and visited the late President Johnson's Ranch. It is a beautiful site with expansive views of the Texas hill country and the Pedernales River.
We were able to tour the inside of the home,  but photos were not allowed.

I only chose pictures this time with a bit of Christmas in them.

The deer heads on the tree were unusual to say the least, but the park service said that is how the president and his wife decorated the tree every year.

We also visited the Fischer Country Store Museum. It was unsettling to see that many of the products on the shelf were part of my life......when did they disappear from the shelves?

In all my years of running back and forth between Austin and Lubbock, I never did visit the LBJ place. I may have mentioned I lost all my pictures and the iPhoto program. My daughter in law had bought a single download of the iPhoto program a while back. I borrowed it not thinking I could actually get iPhoto but a couple of other programs that came with it. To my surprise Iphoto showed up. I restarted my computer and behold and lo, all my pictures were back. Go figure. How do it know.

  2. Oh! I am so happy that you got your photos back--I don't know if you get a copy of my comments in reply to yours--I have an old edition of blogger --it does not allow replies as such to comments---and am afraid if I upgrade I will lose the old.

We love the LBJ ranch--it brings back a lot of memories--gazing at the trees along the river we remember the bar be cues he held for press and foreign dignitaries--the house is really quite simple, but large since he brought so many out to visit.
