Many years ago I planted milkweed plants in flowerbeds to attract Monarch butterflies. The plants now pop up all over the place in various flowerpots and beds. I usually weed around them and watch for Monarchs. Butterflies have been scarce this year, but Monarchs must have been through here. This morning while watering pot plants I noticed several Monarch larva munching away at the milkweed plants that attracted the adults. They are about to eat themselves out of a place to stay--the plants are disappearing from their healthy appetite.
